The eldere man, to the chosen lady, and to hir children, the whiche I loue in treuthe; and not I aloone, but and alle men that knewen treuthe; for the treuthe that dwellith in ȝou, and with ȝou shal be with outen ende. Grace be with ȝou, mercy, and pees of God the fadir, and of Jhesu Crist, the sone of the fadir, in treuthe and charite. I ioiede ful miche, for I foond of thi sones goynge in treuthe, as we receyueden maundement of the fadir. And now I preye thee, lady, not as writinge a newe maundement to thee, but that that we hadden at the bigynnynge, that we loue eche other. And this is charite, that we walke vp his maundementes. Sotheli this is the comaundement, that as ȝe herden at the bigynnynge, in him walke ȝe. For many deceyuours wenten out in to the world, whiche knowlechen not Jhesu Crist for to haue come in flesch; this is a deceyuour and antecrist. Se ȝe ȝoure silf, lest ȝe leese the thinges that ȝe han wrouȝt, but that ȝe receyue ful meede; witynge that ech man that goith awey, and dwellith not in the techinge of Crist, hath not God. He that dwellith in the techinge, hath and the sone and the fadir. If ony man cometh to ȝou, and bringeth not to this teching, nyle ȝe receyue him in to hous, nether ȝe shulen seie to him, Heyl. Sotheli he that seith to him, Heyl, comuneth with his yuele werkis. Lo! I bifore seide to ȝou, that ȝe be not confoundid in the day of oure Lord Jhesu Crist. I hauynge mo thinges for to wrijte to ȝou, wolde not bi parchemyn and ynke; sotheli I hope me to comynge to ȝou, and speke mouth to mouth, that ȝour ioye be ful. The sones, or douȝtres, of thi systir chosen greten thee wel. The grace of God with thee. Amen.
