Poul, and Siluan, and Tymothe, to the chirche of Tessalonycensis, in God oure fadir, and in the Lord Jhesu Crist, grace to ȝou and pees of God, oure fadir, and of the Lord Jhesu Crist. We schullen, or owen, do thankyngis euermore to God for ȝou, britheren, so as it is worthi, for ȝoure feith ouerwexith, and the charite of ech of ȝou to gidere haboundith. So that we silf glorien in ȝou in the chirchis of God, for ȝoure pacience and feith in alle ȝoure persecuciouns and tribulaciouns. The whiche ȝe susteynen into the ensaumple of the iust dom of God, that ȝe be had worthi in the kyngdom of God, for which and ȝe suffren. If netheles it is iust at God for to quyte ȝeldyng to hem that trublen ȝou, and to ȝou that ben trublid, reste with vs in the schewinge of oure Lord Jhesu Crist fro heuene, with aungels of his vertu, in the flawme of fyer, ȝyuynge veniaunce to hem that knewen not God, and that obeyen not to the euangelie of oure Lord Jhesu Crist. The whiche schulen ȝyue, or suffre, euere lastinge peynes, in perisching fro the face of the Lord, and fro the glorie of his vertu, whanne he schal come for to be glorified in his seyntis, and for to be maad wondirful in alle men that bileueden, for oure witnessyng is bileued on ȝoun, in that day. In which thing also we preien euermore for ȝou, that oure God fouchesaf for to clepe ȝou in his clepyng, and fulfille al the wille of his goodnesse, and the werk of feith in vertu; that the name of oure Lord Jhesu Crist be clarified in ȝou, and ȝe in it, vp the grace of oure God, and of the Lord Jhesu Crist.
Forsothe, britheren, we preien ȝou by the comynge of oure Lord Jhesu Crist, and oure congregacioun into the same thing, that ȝe be not moued soone fro ȝoure witt, nether be agast, nethir bi spirit, nethir by word, nether by epistle as sent by vs, as the day of the Lord be nyȝ. That no man disceyue ȝou in ony maner. For no but departyng awey, or dissencioun, schal come first, and the man of synne schal be schewid, the sone of perdicioun, that is aduersarie, and is enhaunsid vpon al thing that is seid God, or that is worschipid, so that he sitte in the temple, or into the temple, of God, schewinge him silf as he be God. Wher ȝe holden not, that ȝit whanne I was at ȝou, I seide thes thingis to ȝou? And now what withholdith, ȝe witen, that he be schewid in his tyme. Forwhi the mysterie, or priuyte, of wickidnesse worchith now; oonly that he that holdith now, holde, til it be maad of the myddel. And thanne the ilke wickid man schal be schewid, whom the Lord Jhesu schal sle with the spirit of his mouth, and schal distroye with the illumynyng, or schynyng, of his comyng. Jhesus schal sle him, whos comyng is vp the worching of Sathanas, in al vertu, and signes, and grete wondris, lyinge, or fals, and in al disseit of wickidnesse, to hem that perischen. For that thei resceyueden not the charite of treuthe, that thei schulden be maad saaf. Therfore God schal sende to hem a worching of errour, that thei bileue to lessyng, or gabbyng, that alle be demyd, or dampned, the whiche bileueden not to treuthe, but consentiden to wickidnesse. Forsoth we owen for to do thankingis euermore to God for ȝou, ȝe bretheren loued of God, that God chees vs primyssis, or firste fruytis, into heelthe, in halowyng of spirit and feith of treuthe; in the which and he clepide ȝou by oure gospel, into getynge of the glorie of oure Lord Jhesu Crist. And so, britheren, stonde ȝe, and holde ȝe the tradiciouns, or techingis, that ȝe han lerud, ethir by word, ethir by oure pistle. Forsothe oure Lord Jhesu Crist him silf, and God and oure fadir, the which louede ȝou, and ȝaf euerlasting comfort and good hope in grace, stirre, or moneste, ȝoure hertis, and conferme in al werk and good word.
Britheren, hennis forthward preie ȝe for vs, that the word of God renne, and be clarified, as and anentis ȝou; and that we be delyuered fro vncouenable, or noyous, and yuele men; sothli feith is not of alle men. Forsoth the Lord is trewe, that schal conferme vs, and schal kepe fro yuel. Sothli, britheren, we tristen of ȝou in the Lord, for what euere thingis we bydden, and ȝe don and schulen don. Forsoth the Lord dresse ȝoure hertis, in the charite of God, and pacience of Crist. Forsothe, britheren, we denouncen to ȝou in the name of oure Lord Jhesu Crist, that ȝe withdrawe ȝou fro ech brother wandrynge vnordynatly, or aȝens good ordre, and not vp the tradicioun, that thei resceyueden of vs. Sothli ȝe ȝe silf witen, how it bihoueth for to sue vs. For we weren not inquyet, or reste, or in pesyble, among ȝou, nether frely, or withoute oure owne traueil, we eeten breed of ony man, but in trauel and werynesse nyȝt and day worchinge, that we greueden noon of ȝou. Not as we hadden not power, but that we schulden ȝyue vs silf a foorme, or ensaumple, for to sue vs. Forwhi and whanne we weren anentis ȝou, this thing we denounsiden, or warneden, to ȝou, for if ony man wole not worche, nether ete he. Sothli we han herd summe among ȝou for to wandre inquyet, or reste, or in pesibli, no thing worchinge, but doynge curiously. Forsoth we denounsen to hem that ben siche maner men, and bisechen in the Lord Jhesu Crist, that thei with silense, or stilnesse, worchinge, ete her owne breed. Forsothe nyle ȝe, britheren, fayle wel doynge in Crist Jhesu oure Lord. That if ony man schal not obeie to oure word by epistle, marke ȝe hym, and comune ȝe not with him, that he be confoundid, or schamed; and nyle ȝe gesse hym as an enemy, but reproue ȝe him as a brother. Forsothe the ilke God of pees ȝyue to ȝou euerlastyng pees in al place. The Lord be with alle ȝou. My salutacioun by the hond of Poul; that is signe in ech epistle. I write thus. The grace of oure Lord Jhesu Crist be with alle ȝou. Amen.
